Please finish 1.9 (5,6) and 1.10 (all). To make sure you are on the right path, here is a summary of the figures your groups should have gotten in exercise 1: a (hyper), b (degenerate w/line y = -x), c (hyperbola), d (ellipse), e (hyperbola), f (ellipse), g (ellipse), h (hyperbola).
Don't forget to think about eccentricity again, especially for 1.9 (5,6). Danny said that e = c/a, where "c" is the distance from center to a focus and "a" is half the major axis length. To figure out why this is true, you might want to look at your graph for 1.9 #2 - I think this is clearer than using your sketchpad sketch.
